Installing Actions
in Photoshop
This tutorial will guide you through
the installation of a Photoshop action. It works for Photoshop 7.0 and above, though your windows may look slightly different.
Special notes about our tutorials: The red text indicates a choice from the main menu (at the top). In addition, (gray text) indicates a Windows shortcut key.Learning shortcut keys is totally optional, but highly recommended. Mac users substitute command for ctrl and option for alt to learn these shortcuts. I use photographs from clipart.com to illustrate my tutorials. Our tutorials are copyrighted, but if you have your own site, you may link to this page.
Step 1
Copy the .atn file to the location of your choice. I like to keep all of my actions in one place.
Step 2
Open Photoshop. Open the Actions palette. window>>actions (alt-f9)
Step 3
Click on the triangle button in the top corner of the Actions palette and click "Load Actions..." Open the file from the location you chose in step 1.
Step 4
The action is now installed! Check the individual instructions for the individual action for specific requirements before continuing. Some may want you to select a layer's contents, others may need you to choose a color or load a brush.
Step 5
Click on the name of the action in the Actions palette.(Click on the action, not the folder it's in.) Press play.
